How to reset iPod?

There are several lines currently available in iPod. These are iPod Classic, iPod touch, iPod Classic, iPod nano and iPod shuffle. Each of the variant possesses different features. They can be classified based on its touch or click wheel, storage capacity and color of the screen. Hence there are separate methods to reset each of the line.

When the iPods are reset, they go back into the factory setting mode. Generally, iPod resetting is required when iTunes fails to do it. In this process, all previous data, songs, pictures and videos are erased completely. Hence, the users should think before resetting the iPod. Here are the guidelines to reset various iPods.

Why to reset the iPod

There are various reasons for which the iPod is reset. Generally, when the iPod fails to play the music, the iPod is reset. If the iPod is not able to restore itself using the iTunes, it is required to reset the iPod. Sometimes, iPod is recognized on computer or on MAC, but not identified by iTunes. In such case also, the iPod needs resetting.

Reset Touch and scroll Wheel iPod

If you have a Touch Wheel iPod, then here are the steps to reset it. First, toggle the iPod’s Hold switch. Make it On and Off for few times. To switch on the iPod, simply hold the menu and play/ pause button by pressing it. Hold the button until the logo of iPod or Apple appears on the screen. You may need to hold it for 6 – 10 seconds. If no change occurs, repeat the same steps for some more times.

If this method does not work, try resetting it by connecting it to computer. The connection with computer may reset the iPod. After that, press the menu button and select button simultaneously. It’s quite possible that the iPod gets reset after these processes. This kind of reset will not erase the stored songs and other files. However, the customized setting like backlight timer, shuffle and Bookmark will be lost.

The same steps are to be repeated for the scroll wheel iPod, Click Wheel iPod, iPod Video, iPod Nano, and iPod Photo.

Reset iPod Shuffle

Shuffle iPod is the smallest model in the iPod variants. It is the digital audio player. This is the first device in iPods to use the flash memory instead of hard disk. This iPod does not have a screen. Hence it is difficult to find out which error has occurred in it. However, Apple’s manual says that if amber and yellow lights are flashing, then it has got a generic error.

You can reset the Shuffle iPod in two ways. The manual method is simple. First, disconnect the computer from the iPod. There is a switch at the back of the iPod. Make it off. Wait for 5 seconds and again switch it on. If this method doesn’t work, go for the reset utility method. This is software than works on the computers. The software version 1.1.5 works for 1st generation of iPod Shuffle, while version 1.0.4 works for 2nd generation. The software comes with the instructional guide to reset the iPod.
